as performed by the Gerry Mulligan Sextet, 1956
JSC-008 — Score and parts for trumpet, trombone, tenor & baritone saxophones, bass and drums – 30€
Gil Evans had been closely associated to Gerry Mulligan since the Birth of the Cool 1949 experiences. Mulligan came back to the East Coast with his brand new sextet and asked Evans to write an arrangement for his band. Evans chose “La plus que lente”, an impressionist waltz for piano from Debussy, to which he kept the impressionist atmosphere but with a 4/4 Tango feeling. The arrangement largely features the baritone sax as the prominent voice.
